Two Kuki Women Paraded By Mob

On social media, a horrifying video of two women in Manipur being paraded on a road by a gang of men has gone viral, sparking outrage and calls for action.

On May 4, the incident took place in the village of B Phainom in the Kangpokpi district.
The two women are seen being led towards some fields in the video by many males who appear to be Meiteis. At least some of the men may be seen assaulting the women in the footage.

According to Scroll.in who has spoken to one of the survivors who said the assault took place near her village, B Phainom.

“When we resisted, they told me: ‘if you don’t take 0ff your clothes, we will k*ll you,” said the woman, who is her forties. She said she took off “every item of clothing” only in order to “protect herself”. All the while, the men allegedly slapped and punched her. She said she was not aware of what was happening to her 21-year-old neighbour, because she was some distance away.

The woman alleged that she was then dragged to a paddy field near the road, and asked by the men to “lie down” there. “I did as they told me, and three men surrounded me… One of them told the other, ‘let’s assault her’, but ultimately they did not,” she said.

The police are to look into this situation as quickly as possible, according to Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
