Viral Video: Lewis Hamilton overtakes Max Verstappen at Singapore GP
Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have provided some of the most thrilling overtakes in recent Formula 1 history. Their rivalry has been intense, but always respectful, and their battles on track have been some of the most exciting moments of the sport.
One of the most memorable overtakes between the two drivers came at the 2021 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Hamilton had started the race from 10th place after being disqualified from qualifying, but he quickly charged through the field. By Lap 55, he was behind Verstappen for the lead.
After George Russell, a teammate, was involved in a crash during the Singapore Grand Prix’s final lap, Lewis Hamilton expressed sympathy for the young British driver and gave an explanation for why his vehicle lost control.

When Russell hit the wall entering Turn 10, he was running in third and attempting to gain ground on Norris. Due to Hamilton’s jump to the podium positions, the Brit was forced to go sliding off the track and into the tire barrier.
Hamilton followed Verstappen closely for several laps, looking for an opportunity to pass. He finally saw his chance on Lap 63, as the two drivers approached Turn 4. Hamilton took a late lunge to the inside and Verstappen was forced to run wide. Hamilton emerged from the corner in the lead and went on to win the race.
Another memorable overtake between Hamilton and Verstappen came at the 2022 Australian Grand Prix. Hamilton was running behind Verstappen on Lap 1 when he saw an opportunity to pass at Turn 3. Hamilton took a late lunge to the inside and Verstappen was forced to give way. Hamilton emerged from the corner in the lead and went on to finish the race in second place.
Hamilton and Verstappen have also had some close battles that have not resulted in overtakes. For example, at the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the two drivers exchanged the lead several times in the final laps of the race. In the end, Verstappen crossed the finish line first, but only by a narrow margin.
