Chicago Teen's Tragic Loss: Man Charged in Killing of 15-Year-Old

A community reels in grief as authorities announce the arrest of a man charged with the first-degree murder of 15-year-old Amarise Parker.

Amarise Parker was strangled on December 12 in the 7200 block of South Phillips Avenue; her body was discovered in the building at 7:24 p.m. that same day. Joshua Williams, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in Parker’s death.

Witnesses claimed they heard arguments taking place in an apartment building in the South Shore neighborhood, so they phoned the police. Officers arrived and found a female unconscious.

Amarise Parker, 15, was eventually identified as the victim by the Cook County Medical Examiner. Parker died from strangulation, the Medical Examiner reported.

Parker had spent the night at Williams’ house on December 11, according to the prosecution. That evening, neighbors heard them fighting. Williams called his cousin and a friend at 7 p.m. on December 12 to report that he was frothing at the mouth and had no idea what to do.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, Parker was found unconscious in a closet with a blanket over her entire body save her head. Williams’ cousin had called 911. Her neck was slashed and crimson, and a necklace was stuck in her throat. Her neck was also covered in scratches on the side of her face.
