Update Video: How david kozak, a lone gunman shot 15 people dead in Prague

The bloodiest mass shooting in the history of the Czech Republic took place on Thursday, December 21, when a lone shooter opened fire at Charles University in the heart of Prague, leaving at least 15 people dead and over 20 injured. The historic city was thrown into grief and mourning as a result of the attack, which shocked the entire country.

The gunman, a 24-year-old university student studying international history, committed suicide as a result of the shooting rampage in central Prague.

According to Ondrej Moravcik, a spokesman for the Czech police, “the police believe he killed his father in their family home in a village near the town of Kladno, outside of Prague,” in an interview. He said that several of the injured were in critical condition.

Prior to going on a murderous rampage, it is believed that he wrote in a Russian-language journal on the messaging service Telegram, “I want to do a school shooting and possibly suicide.”

Prime Minister Petr Fiala addressed the nation, expressing “profound sadness and anger” at the senseless loss of life. He declared a national day of mourning for December 23rd to honor the victims and their families.

Charles University, one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious institutions, stands at the heart of Prague’s cultural and intellectual landscape. The shooting cast a dark shadow over the festive season, leaving the university community and the entire city traumatized.

Kozak is believed to have murdered at least 14 people and injured another 25, ten of whom were critically hurt.

After which the 24-year-old is believed to have turned the gun on himself, police discovered his body.

According to Police Chief Martin Vondrasek, investigators now think Kozak was involved in the deaths of a father and a child last week.
