Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker, snubbed his teammates Diego Demme and Piotr Zielinski but greeted the manager when he arrived at the team hotel ahead of their Serie A clash against Udinese.
The incident was caught on video and has since gone viral. In the video, Osimhen is seen shaking hands with the team manager, Giuseppe Santoro, but he ignores Demme and Zielinski, who are standing nearby.
In a Sunday encounter against Bologna, the Italian team was awarded a penalty, but the striker was unable to convert it, resulting in a goalless draw for his team.
On its verified TikTok profile, Napoli published a video on Tuesday. Some fans, particularly those from Nigeria, the footballer’s place of origin, expressed upset over the post, which they thought was intended to belittle the miss.
The club has been threatened with legal action by Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calendar, for “severe damage to the player” brought on by the video. In what appeared to be a response to Napoli over the video, Osimhen also deleted all Napoli-related photographs from his Instagram feed.
The incident has sparked outrage among some Napoli fans, who have accused the club of disrespecting Osimhen. Others have defended the club, saying that the video was only meant to be a joke.
