Wes Brown, a former star for Manchester United and England, has been declared bankrupt by the High Court.
On February 27 of this year, HMRC (His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) filed a bankruptcy petition against the former Red Devils defender, who made £50,000 per week at Old Trafford. On April 12, it received the High Court’s seal of approval, and this week, The Gazette published the order.
The former defender made his United debut in 1998 and appeared in more than 200 games before leaving the team in 2011 to join Sunderland.
Wes and Leanne parted up before Christmas 2021, according to reports, and no outside parties were involved.
Three years later Leanne stated: “Yes We’ve got a lovely life and all this money and I’m not saying the money isn’t great but when you’re in it you’re living in this bubble.
“Although the fans can be amazing they can also be very cruel.
“It must be hard [for footballers] to deal with to be on top one minute and hated the next for a bad kick or missing a goal.
“We are the ones that are left to pick up the pieces and beat the brunt of whatever is left at the end of their careers.
“Sometimes it’s hard being alone a lot. The lads are away a lot, especially if involved in a high-profile club and England international, too.”
A difficult time in Brown’s personal life preceded his bankruptcy.
The Real Housewives of Cheshire actress Leanne, 46, and Brown were said to have separated last year, according to reports.
Following the breakup, Brown, now 43, reportedly moved out of the home he shared with Leanne and their kids.
