PHOTO: Sam Fried Bankman (SFB) looking skinny in first behind bar pictures
There’s been a noticeable change in Sam Bankman-Fried’s appearance in the first picture of him in prison. The shamed former millionaire seemed to have shed some weight; the photo shows him looking scruffy and bearded.
Even though he is seen looking somewhat happy amongst a group of friends, the way he puts his hands together betrays a sense of resignation to the state of affairs he finds himself in.
American businessman Samuel Benjamin Bankman-Fried, also known as SBF, was found guilty in November 2023 of fraud and other related offenses. He was born on March 5, 1992. Known as the “poster boy” of the cryptocurrency world, Bankman-Fried launched the FTX exchange. He was listed as the 41st richest American in the Forbes 400 during the height of his career.
Significant issues at FTX were concealed by the Bankman-Fried public image. When evidence of possible fraud started to emerge in November 2022, depositors swiftly withdrew their funds, pushing the business into bankruptcy. After being detained in the Bahamas on December 12, 2022, Bankman-Fried was extradited to the US, where he was charged with seven felonies, including money laundering, commodities fraud, securities fraud, wire fraud, and violations of campaign financing laws.
